Lautan Variasi Powers Malaysia’s Digital Future with New Earth Station and Data Centre

CYBERJAYA, Malaysia — Lautan Variasi Sdn Bhd (LVSAT), a leader in Malaysia’s satellite communications sector, is setting new benchmarks in digital infrastructure with the development of a next-generation Earth Station and Data Centre in Cyberjaya.

Established in 2015, Lautan Variasi has long been at the forefront of delivering end-to-end licensed telecom and broadband services, particularly to Malaysia’s rural and underserved communities through Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology. Now, the company is expanding its mission by building a regional gateway that will not only enhance satellite broadband capabilities but also fuel Malaysia’s growing cloud, data, and telehealth ecosystems.

The Earth Station project is part of a broader collaboration with Telstra International, Australia’s leading telecommunications company. Together, Lautan Variasi and Telstra aim to deliver high-speed, low-cost satellite internet to Malaysia’s most remote areas while positioning Cyberjaya as a strategic hub for regional satellite connectivity.

“Our vision is to make Malaysia a leader in satellite data solutions,” said Datuk Syed Nasir Hussin, founder and Managing Director of Lautan Variasi, who holds a 70% stake in the company. “By reducing dependency on international bandwidth and offering local cloud and telehealth services powered through our facility, we are helping rural communities leapfrog into the digital age.”

Between 2022 and 2024, Lautan Variasi posted total revenues of RM50 million and a profit after tax of RM4.45 million, continuing its trend of profitability since 2019. These strong financials underpin the company’s next move: a public listing on the NASDAQ stock exchange. Appointing PIF Capital Management Ltd and Antz Capital Pte Ltd as lead IPO advisors, Lautan Variasi plans to use the proceeds to complete its Earth Station project, fund further R&D, and expand its skilled workforce.

The Cyberjaya Earth Station and Data Centre will serve multiple purposes:

Satellite Gateway: Managing high-speed rural broadband traffic and reducing data costs.

Cloud Services: Offering localised cloud storage solutions for Malaysian businesses.

Telehealth Expansion: Powering rural telemedicine platforms, ensuring healthcare reaches even the most isolated communities.

With strategic moves like TrackerBuddy (emergency communication for rural areas) and TMMS (tracking systems for schoolchildren in remote areas), Lautan Variasi is already redefining how satellite technologies serve communities. The addition of an Earth Station amplifies its impact, providing the digital backbone for broader economic development.

As Malaysia accelerates its digital transformation, Lautan Variasi’s investments in satellite-based infrastructure are poised to play a critical role in closing the digital divide and ushering in a new era of connected, cloud-enabled prosperity.
